Saints are becoming increasingly alienated from what goes on Sunday by Sunday in church. Gradually over an extended period of time they begin to develop simmering rage which though silent at first does not remain that way. There is no avenue for expression in the modern church since we seem to have developed communities of silence where many of us remain mute and frustrated by the lack of consensus. It is often said that you need only two skills to get by in church these days; you have to be able to sing and listen. Singing and listening is all the skills you need. This will get you through half a dozen songs, called worship, and the monologue any given Sunday that's for sure.
Church has become a place where some people have all the say every week and most others have nothing to say. But it gets worse, because if you're not much of a listener but more of a talker, too bad. You will just have to become more passive and cultivate a teachable spirit. Have you ever noticed that the only people who talk about our need to be teachable, are those who want to do all the teaching? People want their voices back. Christians want to be themselves. They want to be able to speak freely, honestly, even if it means becoming vulnerable in so doing. They want a worship experience in koinonia where frank and honest conversation takes place so genuine learning and personal growth can take place. It can't be done in the present system. It can only take place under the headship of Christ around two elements, bread and wine. We are not saying we have no need for bishops and deacons (Phil 1:1.), but we need to wake up because Christians everywhere are having serious questions about the way we are "Doing Church."
